Six Unique Overnight Accommodations in Virginia

If you travel a lot, after a while many typical and/or traditional hotels, and more specifically their rooms, just begin to blend together. When you are traveling for business, a unique hotel may not be a priority, as you will most likely be more concerned with location and available amenities. However, for a weekend getaway or a week long vacation, you might want to explore accommodations that are unique, and dare it be said, even a little weird.

In that case, here are six (6) unique overnight accommodations that can be found in the Commonwealth of Virginia:

6. Hornsby House Inn

The Hornsby House Inn Bed and Breakfast in Yorktown, VA qualifies as a unique accommodation due to its proximity to historic Yorktown. Step outside this quaint B&B to the sight of the Yorktown Victory Monument (located on the Battlefield Site), just across the street. Staying at the Hornsby House Inn places you right in the middle of history. If you and the members of your travel party are history buffs, then surely staying right in the middle of historic Yorktown, within walking distance of many great historical and cultural sites, would make for a perfect vacation or weekend getaway.

5. Sandy River Outdoor Adventures

At Sandy River Outdoor Adventures, guests can stay in a variety of accommodations. However, for this article the Tepees take the honor of being an especially unique place to stay at this location. The property, located in Rice, VA, near Farmville, boasts six (6) Glamping Tepees where guests can spend the night in unique luxury. The Tepees include many amenities that you would expect in a hotel room suite with a kitchenette. They have both heating and air-conditioning, and in suite bathrooms. Additionally, when you stay on Sandy River property you receive discounts at the Adventure Park.

4. The Liberty Trust Hotel

The Liberty Trust Hotel is a brand new overnight accommodation option in downtown Roanoke, VA. Located across the street from Frankie Rowland’s Steakhouse (a premier eatery in Roanoke, VA), The Liberty Trust Hotel is unique because it is housed in the old Liberty Trust Bank building, and was recently converted into a hotel. The new hotel features 54 guest rooms and, according to an article from WSLS 10, they intend to open a dining/bar space in the main lobby later in the summer of 2022.

“The Liberty Trust Hotel is unique because it is housed in the old Liberty Trust Bank building, and was recently converted into a hotel.”

3. Cair Paravel Farmstead - a very quirky AirBNB

While it does not specifically state so on its website, with a name like Cair Paravel (not to mention a guest house called the Tumnus House) we can’t help but believe that this quirky and unique AirBNB was inspired by C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia, most specifically, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. For guests, the pastoral farm setting offered by Cair Paravel Farmstead boasts unique accommodations, a Hot Tub, a Pool, and other peaceful tranquilities amongst nature.

2. 1926 C&O Guest Caboose (Train Car)

Located near Natural Bridge, VA, its maybe not that strange to imagine that Virginia, home to the Norfolk Southern Railroad, would also provide tourists with the opportunity to spend a night in a refurbished train car. At 1926 C&O Guest Caboose, guests can enjoy air conditioning and a Flat Screen TV complete with streaming Wi-Fi (if you log into your own Netflix account). The refurbished caboose is chock full of train memorabilia and offers several options for outdoor cooking.

1. Fenton Inn

Fenton Inn is such a unique and quirky accommodation option in Virginia, that its existence inspired this article. The Fenton Inn is a small Inn, located in Roseland, Virginia near Wintergreen, which was designed to look like a Bavarian Village. Brightly colored exteriors and Bavarian inspired architectural design make this location seem very quirky and out of place in rural Virginia. Yet, the Inn is real and open for business. With a Hot Tub, private Cinema room available for rent, and available Spa services, the Fenton Inn offers an unusual setting in which guests can unwind.
