Defining Entertainment?

How does one define Entertainment? Is it simply any activity that entertains? Or must it go a bit deeper than that? Should it be art? Should it be culture?

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, entertainment is, “the act of providing or being provided with amusement or enjoyment,” (https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/entertainment), indicating that a key element in entertainment is enjoyment. Finding joy and enjoyment in life and in the activities and tasks one pursues is key in finding lasting happiness and contentment.

Entertainment, for the purposes of this blog, fellow wanderers, can be anything one enjoys from books to motion pictures to live theatre, and more. Over the past year we have been forced to redefine entertainment, living even more online than we have in the past, sticking close to home, and staying outdoors. However, as the world begins to slowly recover and move back towards pre-2020 normal, we can once again seek enjoyment in everything we have missed over the past 15+ months. While streaming video and new online entertainment is inevitably here to stay, it is time to once again go back out into the world and live real lives, full of joy, peace, and fun!
