Wildwood Smokehouse

The Wildwood Smokehouse is a barbeque restaurant located along Rt. 419 in Roanoke County near Salem, VA. When you first walk in to the restaurant you are surrounded by a warm, country feel from the décor of wooden tables, checkered tablecloths, and pig paraphernalia around the restaurant. You are then greeted by the friendly staff, and often seated immediately. For the most part, when the Star City Wanderers have visited Wildwood Smokehouse it has not been bust and we have not had to wait for a table.

After you are seated and they take your drink order, they bring you a basket of Hush Puppies and butter to enjoy while you peruse the menu and or wait for your food to arrive. As for the menu, it includes a variety of traditional barbeque dishes and sides, including:

• Pulled Pork

• Pulled Chicken

• Brisket

• Smoked Ham

• Smoked Chicken Wings

• Ribs

• Ribeye Steak

• Prime Rib (only available on Fridays and Saturdays)

• French Fries

• BBQ Beans

The majority of their menu items are very good. However, the stand out dishes include the Prime Rib, which is smoked to rare then finished to your specifications in the au jus, the St. Louis Cut Ribs – Dry, and the Chicken Tips cooked with onions and green peppers. The Prime Rib especially is very flavorful, and the Chicken Tips is one of the juiciest and best chicken dishes in a restaurant the Star City Wanderers have ever tried. In addition to the main courses, the sides are also very good, especially the Onion Rings which are lightly crisp and delicious, and the Smokehouse Chips which are house-made potato chips. The only dish that was not great is the Brisket which is a bit dry. Overall, the food is solidly good and consistent, the atmosphere is relaxed and warm, and the staff is incredibly friendly and competent. If you are visiting the Roanoke Valley, the Wildwood Smokehouse is definitely worth a stop.
